Summertime Neighborhoods
I always talk about how summer in New York feels so fleeting, and part of that is being an adult locked to a schedule without summer break, but its also the fact that there is at most only a few weeks of summer bliss, quiet weekends when some leave, busy weeks with tourists wandering the city with more luggage than they can push — and then it’s over. This summer I did not check off the majority of my hopeful checklist which included many beach days, pool days, and mini excursions. Instead work reigned, there were zero beach days, but I still worked on myself. Eating well, sleeping well (or attempting to), and exercising at least twice a day. One of my check marks included getting a pair of trousers, Alo yoga pants, and a silk pleated skirt tailored to actually fit me. Articles of clothing I have had in a bag ready to take in for well over a year and never did. Visited a local tailor with the most endearing shop and warmest demeanor, a skilled and talented seamstress with so much knowledge of her craft. The next day she called and said “they’re ready for you!” and wondered why I put off something for so long when it hardly took any time at all. Reflecting and always learning, summer is a moment to pause no matter how seldom or brief it is.
